We are pleased to announce a unique opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students majoring or minoring in Korean Studies!
The Good Society Institute (Director: Kim Dong-Choon), in collaboration with the May 18 Memorial Foundation, is jointly sponsoring a special field study program focusing on the Gwangju 5.18 Democracy Movement.

Program Title:
Gwangju 5.18: A Field Study in Democracy and Memory
Program Overview:
This immersive program offers both a field study experience and special lectures. Participants will have the unique opportunity to join students from the University of Tübingen, Germany, who are also majoring in Korean Studies, fostering international exchange and shared learning.
Program Period: May 15 (Friday) – 17 (Sunday), 2026
Location:
Gwangju Metropolitan City, South Korea (including May 18 Democracy Square, National Cemetery, Jeonil Building 245, and other significant sites).
Eligibility:
Undergraduate and graduate students majoring or minoring in Korean Studies.
- Familiarity with modern Korean history.
- Proficiency in English.
Open to both Republic of Korea (ROK) citizens and international students.
Must be available to be in South Korea during the program period (mid-May 2026).
Participants:
15 students from the University of Tübingen.
15 participants selected by the Good Society Institute.
Fee: FREE (Includes accommodation, meals, and all program activities).
Note: Personal transportation to and from Gwangju is not included.
