Bio
Esme, Wing Shan CHAN is currently a junior fellow at Kyujanggak and a former lecturer in the Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies at the Education University of Hong Kong. She recently passed her viva in Korean Studies at School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
Her primary research interests are gender relations, the interaction of the exaltation of chastity and the institutionalisation of patrilineality. She has previously conducted researches on the role of hanja in Korean language, the change of North-East Asian interstate relations and international migration during the Koryŏ dynasty, as well as the historical shifts and the changes of political ideology behind the compilation of The Illustration Guide to the Three Relations (Samgang haengsilto, 三綱行實圖).
