2026 Korean Studies Research Session for Teaching and Technology:
“Research-led Teaching in Korean Studies”
Monash University, Clayton Campus (hybrid in-person and online)
Tuesday 24th February 2026, 1-5pm
We invite proposals for a half-day workshop hosted by Monash University Korean Studies Research Hub (MUKSRH). The session, held in hybrid mode, will explore innovative approaches to research-led teaching within Korean Studies. Broadly defined, research-led teaching means designing and delivering education so that students learn from — and sometimes directly participate in — the research process. Lecturers integrate their own current research findings, the latest developments in the field, and authentic scholarly debates into their teaching. The goal is to blur the line between “learning” and “creating knowledge,” making students active participants in the production and critique of scholarship.
This event aims to share strategies for integrating cutting-edge research on Korea into curriculum design, classroom practice, and student learning. We welcome contributions addressing theory, pedagogy, and reflective practice across all areas of Korean Studies. Topics may include fostering student inquiry, using current research as teaching material, and embedding research skills in assessment. Presentations will be 20 minutes plus 10 minutes Q&A.
EOIS, including abstracts of up to 250 words should be submitted via the form linked here and should include the following information:
*Note that online participation is primarily designed for those joining from out of state. Participants in the Melbourne area are generally expected to attend in person.
The deadline for submission of EOIs is 30th September.
Monash University Korean Studies Research hub will fund one presenter (airfare and 2 nights’ accommodation) to attend the event from out of state. We will select the invited speaker from the EOIs that we receive.
