Join us on the 20th of April for the second seminar in the UCLan ISAP Postgraduate-Led Seminar Series at the University of Central Lancashire, UK.

Asia is weird - or is it? Popular media often presents Japan as a modern country with robot hotels but also a weird one where people are obsessed with manga and anime. Recently, there has been a considerable growth in content of Thai and other Asian horror films on Netflix as well as a mediatic interest in North Korea's weird policies and practices. We are delighted to invite you to this event to see why these 'Asian oddities' exist and what they mean with a panel of scholars that will discuss them. During our discussion, we will also address perhaps the most important question - why is it that we think Asia is odd?

The following scholars will be joining us this time around:

  • Dr Colette Bailman, Kingston University.
  • Dr Artur Lózano-Méndez, Autonomous University of Barcelona.

The seminar will conclude with individual breakout rooms with the speakers and a Q&A session with the whole panel.

Register on Eventbrite to book your place. The seminar will take place at the University of Central Lancashire. Refreshments will be provided.

Date: 20th of April 2022

Time: 14:00 - 16:00 GMT

Location: ABLT5 / Online via Microsoft TEAMS (the link will be sent the day before the event. A reminder will be sent 30 minutes before as well)
